Real objects
Base-ten blocks to regroup, a jug to pour, a protractor to turn: the same equipment your child uses at school.
Twenty hands-on maths tools that work like the real thing: base-ten blocks, a kitchen scale, a protractor, real Australian coins. Your child does the working out. If they get stuck, SubjectMate provides them with a hint for the next step, never the answer.
Each tool starts with something your child can see and move. As they get more confident, the tool gives them less support, until they can solve the problem on their own.
Base-ten blocks to regroup, a jug to pour, a protractor to turn: the same equipment your child uses at school.
Next they record their thinking on number lines and in number sentences, the way they set out maths in their book.
Finally they solve it with no tools at all. When they get two right in a row without a hint, the next level opens.
Every tool has hints written by a teacher. Each time your child presses “I’m stuck”, they get a little more help, but they always finish the problem themselves.
Measuring an angle: “Put the centre dot of the protractor on the corner of the angle.” A faint outline shows where it goes.
“Line up the bottom edge of the protractor with one arm of the angle. Which row of numbers starts at 0 on that arm?”
“Count around with me: 20, 40, 60… now count on the small marks.” Your child reads the final number.

SubjectMate knows your child’s state and year level. Each tool shows the tasks their class is learning, in the right order, using the same words their teacher uses. Topics your state teaches in a later year are left out.
Reading a scale where not every mark has a number: work out what each mark is worth, then count on.
Measuring angles in degrees with a protractor.
No. The tools never show a total your child hasn’t worked out, and “I’m stuck” provides one step at a time. Your child always finishes the problem themselves.
Years 3 to 6. Each tool starts at your child’s year level and steps up after two correct answers in a row without hints. Years 7 to 10 have their own high school Maths Studio.
