What the report shows you

A score tells you how they went. The skill breakdown tells you what to do next.

Most practice tests give you a number. SubjectMate breaks each result down by the specific skills NAPLAN tests, so you know whether it is inference questions, number patterns, or apostrophe rules your child needs to work on.

The report also estimates a NAPLAN proficiency band and gives you three plain-language insights about what the result means at your child's year level.

About NAPLAN

What is NAPLAN and why does format familiarity matter?

NAPLAN stands for National Assessment Program, which covers Literacy and Numeracy. Every student in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 across Australia sits the test each March. Results are reported against four proficiency levels: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support.

The official guidance is that students do not need to study for NAPLAN. What it does not say is that children who have never seen the format before can spend the first few minutes of a timed test figuring out how it works rather than answering questions. That is time they do not get back.

These practice tests remove that problem. They do not teach to the test. They remove the surprise so your child can focus on what they actually know.

Questions on this page are original questions written by a qualified teacher experienced with NAPLAN, in the NAPLAN format. They are not reproduced from official ACARA materials.

★★★★★
Year 5 Numeracy · knew what to expect

"The skill breakdown after the practice test was genuinely useful. It told me which types of questions she was losing marks on, not just a total score. We spent the two weeks before NAPLAN working on exactly those areas. She came home from the test day relaxed, which was all I was hoping for."

Year 9 Reading · no surprises on the day

"My son is fine with the content but timed tests make him anxious. We did a few practice runs in the weeks before so the format and the timer felt familiar. He came home saying it was straightforward. I have never heard him say that after a test before."

Year 3 · first NAPLAN

"It was my daughter's first NAPLAN and I did not want her going in anxious about something she had never seen before. We sat a few practice tests at home in the weeks leading up and she stopped worrying about it entirely. She came home happy. That was enough for me."
