Home schooling

A patient tutor for your home school.

SubjectMate is an Australian AI tutor for Years 3 to 12, aligned to your state’s curriculum. You set each week’s tasks for every subject. It works through them with your child step by step, and never hands over the answer. Then it keeps a record of what they covered.

Built around how you teach.

You stay in charge of the program. SubjectMate does the patient, one to one part, and keeps track of it.

You set the week

On your dashboard, choose how long each child spends on each subject and the tasks they work through. Type in this week’s topics from your own program.

Or turn on Plan each week for me: about one task for every 10 minutes, and anything they got wrong comes back the next week.

It teaches, never tells

The tutor asks questions and gives hints until your child works it out. Ask it for the answer and it asks a question back.

  • In Maths it brings out hands on tools when they help.
  • In English it gives feedback on their writing without rewriting it.
  • A short check on any task shows whether they have really got it.

You keep a record

Download a dated record for any period, such as a term or your registration year:

  • Days and active time per subject
  • Topics worked on, with dates
  • Quiz and check scores
  • Samples of their own writing

A summary email arrives every Monday too.

What it covers, and what it doesn’t.

So you can plan around it.

Registration and reporting.

In every state the parent is the educator. You register with your state’s home education unit, and your program and progress reports are what they look at. SubjectMate doesn’t register children or approve programs, and no product can meet those requirements for you.

What it can give you is evidence. The learning record on your dashboard, prepared as a home education record, lists what your child worked on, when, and how they went, with samples of their writing. Use it in your own records, or alongside your annual report or review.

Other states and territories: search for your education department’s home education page. Rules differ by state and change over time, so always check the current requirements there.

Questions from home schooling families.

Is SubjectMate a home school curriculum?

No. SubjectMate is an online tutor that works through each subject with your child, aligned to your state’s curriculum for their year. It is one resource within your own home education program, alongside the books, activities and lessons you choose.

Does it meet home education registration requirements?

Registration is between you and your state’s home education unit, and it is your program and your reports that meet the requirements. SubjectMate does not register children or approve programs. What it can give you is evidence: a dated record of the work your child did with it, which you can download for any period.

Can my children use it during the day?

Yes. SubjectMate is available at any time, so it fits a home schooling day as well as homework after school.

Can I set the work for each child?

Yes. On your parent dashboard you choose how long each child spends on each subject each week and the tasks they work through. Or turn on Plan each week for me, and SubjectMate sets about one task for every 10 minutes, bringing back anything they have not yet shown they understand. Your own tasks always stay.

What does the home education record include?

For the period you choose: days worked and active time per subject, the topics worked on with their dates, every quiz and check with its score, starting checks, and samples of your child’s own writing with the feedback they were given. No chat transcripts are included. You can add your own comments at the top.

We have several children. How does that work?

Each child has their own Student ID, their own weekly tasks and their own record. Family plans cover more than one child; see plans and prices.
