Questions parents ask most
Everything you need to know before getting started. Can't find your answer? Contact us and we'll get back to you within a few hours.
Is SubjectMate actually aligned to the Australian curriculum? +
Yes. At signup you select your child's state and year level. Every response is then tailored to match that specific curriculum board — NESA for NSW, VCAA for VIC, QCAA for QLD, and so on. SubjectMate does not give generic answers.
What year levels does SubjectMate cover? +
What subjects are available? +
Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Legal Studies, Business Studies and PDHPE. See
all subjects for full coverage details by year level.
Is my child's data safe? +
Yes. Accounts are created and managed by parents or guardians. We never sell data to third parties, and tutoring conversation data is not used to train AI models. You can read our full
privacy policy at any time.
How is this different from just using a generic AI chat tool? +
There are two big differences. First, SubjectMate is purpose built for Australian students. It knows your child's year level, state curriculum, and interests, and uses that context in every response. Generic AI chat tools give broad, unfocused answers that may not even match what your child is being taught this term.
Second, and more importantly, generic AI tools just give the answer. SubjectMate never does that. SubjectMate uses Socratic questioning — a teaching method proven to build genuine understanding. It guides your child to work through the problem themselves by asking the right questions, breaking concepts down step by step, and adjusting in real time based on where they are struggling. It can identify knowledge gaps and change its approach on the fly. That understanding is what transfers to the classroom, to assessments, and to exams. A child who has been handed answers has not learned anything. A child who has worked through the problem with guidance has.
How does SubjectMate personalise learning for my child? +
At signup you tell us your child's year level, state, and subject. You also share their interests — sport, music, gaming, whatever they are into. SubjectMate uses these to make examples relevant and engaging. A child who loves cricket will get maths explained through cricket. A child who loves gaming will see science through that lens. Generic tutoring never does this.
How does billing and cancellation work? +
Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually. Annual plans are charged as a single upfront payment. You can cancel any time from your account dashboard with no fees and no questions asked. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.
What is the Focused Support plan and what is locked? +
The Focused Support plan lets your child ask unlimited questions in one subject. The subject and year level are set at signup and cannot be changed without upgrading to Complete Support. Focused Support includes a 7 day free trial that automatically transitions to the paid plan at the end of the trial period.
What is the Complete Support plan? +
The Complete Support plan covers every available subject for a single child. Your child can switch between subjects and year levels at any time, making it ideal as needs change across the school year. Complete Support costs $59 per month or $47 per month billed annually and includes a 7 day free trial that automatically transitions to the paid plan at the end of the trial period.
How does the Family Support plan work? +
The Family Support plan covers 2 to 4 children under one subscription. Each child gets their own profile with their own year level and all subjects available. Family Support pricing starts at $89/month for 2 children, $109 for 3, and $129 for 4.
