Federation is a date until Year 6 HSIE asks what it actually changed.

Year 6 is the last year before high school, and the first that treats Australia as a set of decisions rather than a place. Every one of those decisions cost something, and Year 6 wants both halves.

The fact that you are looking means you are already doing the right thing.

How it works

It works out what changed.

This is a real Year 6 moment. The date is trivia. SubjectMate spends the time on what shifted because of it, which is the part high school will assume they already have.

  • Before and after, side by side
  • Never hands over the answer

why does australia have state and federal governments
Because in 1901 six separate colonies had to agree on something difficult. Start here: if the colonies were going to become one country, somebody had to be able to make decisions for all of them. What would each colony have to hand over for that to work?
SubjectMate always asks your child to think first before explaining. This is what builds real understanding rather than just completed homework.
Why parents choose it

Ready for high school history and civics.

They reason it out themselves

Built by an Australian teacher to guide rather than hand over answers, because Year 6 HSIE rewards understanding over memorising.

Ready in the last primary year

There through the transition to high school, at whatever hour the homework actually gets opened.

Matched to their classroom

Choose your state at signup and the civics, migration and trade examples follow your child’s own school units.

The average private tutor in Australia charges $80 to $120 per hour. SubjectMate is $39 a month, with no limit on sessions and no booking required.

Parent reviews

What Year 6 students and parents say.

Year 3 Maths

“He used to refuse maths homework every single night. Now he jumps on SubjectMate before I even ask. His end of term report was the best we have ever seen.”

Amanda R.Parramatta NSW
Year 4 Reading

“My daughter has always struggled with longer texts. The voice feature changed everything for her. By Term 3 her teacher said she was a completely different student in class.”

Common questions

Questions about Year 6 HSIE tutoring.

Will Year 6 HSIE prepare my child for high school History and Geography?

That is its most useful role. Year 7 splits HSIE into separate subjects and assumes students can already sequence change and explain consequences. Those are the habits this year builds.

My child finds civics dry. Does SubjectMate make it land?

It works by asking what a decision cost rather than listing how parliament is structured. Trade offs are far more interesting to an eleven year old than diagrams of government.

Does it cover migration and Australia’s place in Asia?

Yes, both are Year 6 units and both are covered through guided questions about cause, consequence and perspective rather than as facts to memorise.

What happens to our plan when my child starts Year 7?

Nothing changes and nothing extra is charged. Update the year level in the dashboard and the subjects, tone and examples adjust to secondary.
