Our Story

Built around the principles every Australian teacher knows.

SubjectMate exists because the kids who fall furthest behind are rarely the ones who struggle in class. They are the ones who go home to a quiet house with a question they can't answer and no one to ask.

There's something every teacher knows but rarely says out loud. What happens in the classroom is only half the picture. The other half plays out at the kitchen table at 7pm on a Tuesday when your Year 8 student can't remember how to find the gradient of a line and you're still in your work clothes trying to get dinner on.

The curriculum has changed. And even if you do remember the content there are nights when you simply don't have the energy left to teach after a full day of your own. There's no shame in that. SubjectMate was built for exactly that moment.

You're not failing your child by not knowing the content. You're doing everything right by looking for support.

What we kept seeing
The moments that made us build this
The late night message
A parent reaching out at 9pm asking for help with simultaneous equations because their child had been struggling for an hour. The willingness to help was always there. But it wasn't sustainable for anyone.
The blank assignment
A student handing in nothing with a quiet apology. Not because they didn't try but because they'd tried for two hours alone and couldn't get started without someone to talk them through the first step.
The parent conference
Sitting across from parents doing everything right but unable to be in two places at once. Working full time. Managing a household. Doing their best with content they hadn't seen in twenty years.

Guide rather than give
A tutor who hands over the answer doesn't teach anything. SubjectMate asks questions and works through problems step by step so your child can do it themselves next time.

Built for Australian classrooms
NESA. VCAA. QCAA. SCSA. Every state curriculum has its own terminology and expectations. SubjectMate is aligned to all of them from Year 3 to Year 12.

Available when you need it
Homework doesn't arrive at a convenient time. SubjectMate's there on Sunday nights before a big week and at 9pm when everyone's tired and the assignment is still not finished.

Meets your child where they are
Every student has a different way of learning. SubjectMate adapts to your child's year level, interests and needs rather than delivering a one size fits all explanation that misses the mark.

Safe and parent controlled
Accounts are set up and managed by parents. Sessions stay focused on schoolwork. Your child's data is never sold and will never be used for advertising.

Results that matter
We measure success the way a good teacher does. Not by how many questions were asked but by whether your child walked away understanding something they didn't before.

SubjectMate isn't trying to replace teachers. Good teachers are irreplaceable and the relationships they build with students matter more than any technology can. What SubjectMate does is extend good teaching into the hours when school isn't in session.

If you're a parent who has felt the guilt of not being able to help or the frustration of watching your child struggle in silence, this was built for you.

Give your child a patient tutor for every night of the year.
